Vacation House Rental in San Miguel de Allende

1. We were the luckiest people to have
found Casa Santa Ana. For four magical months last year we lived
there with our 2 children. It is a fabulous home that is steeped
in the history of San Miguel. Walking through the front door into
the couryard you leave the bustle and noise of the city behind
and are carried away to a time long ago. The rooms are generous
and comfortable. Our favorite room was the library where we spent
evenings studying spanish, playing cards and reading by the fire.
The sunsets are magnificent from the rooftop. We spent many hours
watching the changing light on the city. The church bells echo
through the walls of the home and you are certain to see fireworks
at least once during your stay! But, the best part of the home
is the people that work there. Leonore is an amazing cook with
sparkling eyes and an infectious laugh. Alturo, the gardener is
kind and gentle and has a smile that swallows his whole face.
Andres the majordomo (house manager) is a jack of all trades and
is a wealth of knowledge on San Miguel. Patricia, the housekeeper
has a gentle smile and keeps the home sparlking. Casa Santa Ana
will remain forever in our hearts as a very special place.

2. Never could I have imagined my luck and fortitude upon arriving
at what I now consider my home away from home. But truly in my
heart of hearts I have never felt at home anywhere like I do at
this place in San Miguel. It begins just steps away from the town
square but far enough up the hill to give space and a 360 degree
view…of which I will extrapolate upon in a moment. When you open
the gates, old swinging wooden doors that are representative of
the palace you are entering, you are immediately enveloped in
warmth of light and color. Standing in the center of the courtyard
looking up at the sky while fingers of light dance upon the plants,
fountains, stone work, art, balconies, and prying at the mystery
just ahead. My trance was broken by a small group of beautiful
people that over the course of my stay were practically invisible
while cooking delectable meals, cleaning up after me, giving an
uplifted level of service and direction and finding a way into
my heart to which ends I fantasize…mostly about bringing them
all home with me just to continue the friendships. As they took
me on the first tour of this seemingly endless place I will quickly
describe only glimpses because the unfolding should really be
yours for the taking. Regardless, I have memories of never actually
knowing if I was ever indoors or out. I was constantly soothed
and impressed by the style, cleanliness, the artwork, the light,
and the many alcoves, nooks, crannies, and secret places that
were there for the discovery. The bathrooms were beautifully tiled,
enormous, luxurious, and I should mention each room had ceilings
that never stopped. I have no idea of their actual height but
at these heights I would rather hear my laughter and feel my happiness
than know. Each bedroom felt like a master bedroom…but the master
suite I will keep quiet about for it has a voice of it's own.
Lastly as promised, I wound up the stairs to the roof and I could
only raise both arms and slowly turn for the love of God and all
things previously known and everything unknown…I had arrived.
Surrounded by this ancient city…in one breath I took into my being
all of its history. I could practically touch, while being touched,
by the churches, the markets, the cobblestone streets, and walled-in
courtyards, the vast sky that inhabited birds singing overhead,
the view of the distant lake and countryside. I could taste the
art and creativity and cooking and hear the dogs and kids playing
on other roofs and in the streets. Yet it was quiet as well and
when I finally looked at the place I was standing I began to laugh…for
the glassed in rooms, the bar, the plants, the way someone had
made love while constructing their masterpiece…

4. My wife and I have stayed at Casa Santa Ana two times now and
it is our intention to return here many more times in the future.
The building has an incredible history; it's very beautiful and
comfortable; the staff are friendly and helpful; and its just
1 or 2 blocks to the center of town. In short, Casa Santa Ana
is an ideal place to base yourself if you want to spend any time
in San Miguel. I recommend it very strongly.
